Whilst many of you have been hibernating the Carnival Committee have been busy working in the background planning Newport Pagnell’s biggest summer event and we need you (yes you!) to help make this year’s Carnival one to remember.
Let’s rewind 50 years to a parade that had 15-20 lorries entered by groups including the Woman’s Institute, Middleton Swimming Pool, local schools and even floats by residents…now that’s community spirit!
Fast forward your boombox to the era of perms, punks and parachute pants….the 80’s…and the parade was thriving with 40 plus entries regularly entering the Carnival. We are very lucky to have maintained this winning streak of entry numbers and what was once a parade dominated by lorries is now a parade full of variety with tractors, homemade soapbox carts, bicycles and even roller skates being used!
But this year we want more. Yes this year we want to achieve an incredible 50 floats! 2015 marks the 50th anniversary of the Youth Club – something that the profits from our very own Carnival went towards building. To celebrate such an amazing milestone we have set the 2015 parade theme as ’50 bedtime stories’ and we want you to come and join us. Don’t be shy – we need lots of new entries from local business, groups, charities and hey, why not residents? Come along, hand out fliers, give away promotional items, shake collection buckets, raise money and awareness for local charities…get your thinking caps on, your group together and be part of a fantastic day out. We can’t wait to see you!
